Uh-oh, are you sitting there scratching your head wondering whether or not you may be shadowbanned on TikTok?
Trust me, you are not alone. The term shadowban is thrown around a lot and often misunderstood, so let’s clear things up together. In this blog post I will share with you the exact steps to get your account un-shadowbanned.
So let’s first take a look at what a shadowban is. This is when a social media platform blocks or partially blocks a user’s content, so that cannot be seen by others. A platform will not notify you of a shadowban which is why it’s so difficult to determine if you have been placed under a shadowban or not. Typically, a user would get shadowbanned for violating community or user guidelines.
On TikTok a user often thinks they are shadowbanned when their videos do not appear on the FYP or if their video has zero views. However, that is not technically a shadowban, instead it’s a case of the video underperforming and not being pushed on the FYP and video being reviewed.
A shadowban is a result of consistent violation of community guidelines. If you are not familiar with it, I strongly suggest you read the Tiktok Community Guidelines.
There are two major components to a shadowban on TikTok.
No FYP traffic
Not searchable under a hashtag
If you think you are shadowbanned, do this quick 2-step test!
Upload a video and post it with a small hashtag. A small hashtag is defined as something small enough that you can see if your video is categorized under that hashtag.
Log out of your account. Then, log in from another account or have a friend search for your video under that specific hashtag.
If you do find yourself in a shadowban situation. A typical shadow ban lasts 14 - 30 days. There are two options you can follow to avoid this situation.
Avoid posting any content that could violate any community guidelines.
Delete any videos that have community violations from which you lost an appeal.
Only post once per day - show TikTok you are improving your content and behaving and staying active on the platform - content that you know will perform well.
Clear cache - to help reset temporary files that could have caused errors.
Uninstall and reinstall app - you will lose drafts if you do this, but again can help if any glitches.
Update the app.
Wait - if shadowban remains longer than a month try option 2.
Delete your account.
Do not post questionable content and improve video performance metrics, especially your watch time.
Goodluck! I hope these tips help you.
